Technology

Advances in dental technology have been occurring rapidly in the last couple of decades, and at Ohana Dental of Bergen County, we take advantage of the benefits it offers our patients. Before we invest in any new equipment, however, we ask ourselves one question, “How will this technology enhance our patients’ experience with us?”

Our team strives every day to provide you with whatever you need to make your time with us less stressful, more comfortable, and more efficient, and state-of-the-art technology helps us do that.

Please take a few moments to learn about some of the impressive technology we offer, then call us to make an appointment. We would be happy to show you how we use them in our office to improve your experience.

Intraoral Cameras

Thanks to modern technology, the days are gone where you have to guess what your dentist sees when they examine your mouth. As we move a small handheld camera over your teeth, the images appear on your chairside monitor in real time. Now you can see for yourself what your dentist is talking about when they point out an area of concern. A picture is worth a thousand words, and visualizing the problem in detail allows you to make confident, informed decisions about your treatment.

We can also save the images to your patient history as a record or send them to specialists or insurance companies as needed.

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays are an invaluable diagnostic tool, and without them, we wouldn’t know what’s happening inside your tooth, where most dental problems start. We understand, however, that many of our patients have concerns about unnecessary exposure to radiation.

For this reason, we use state-of-the-art digital x-rays that reduce exposure by about 70% compared to traditional film x-rays. Digital x-rays also produce highly-detailed images that we can share with you on your chairside monitor. Since they’re digital, our doctors can manipulate the images to make them larger or smaller and to zoom in on problem areas to point out areas of concern and explain why treatment is necessary.

Aside from being a valuable educational and diagnostic tool, we store digital x-rays in your patient history so they can be easily accessed to monitor conditions or to share with specialists and insurance companies.

Digital Impressions

Is there anything worse than sitting in a dental chair clenching a big tray filled with messy impression putty between your teeth? You fight your gag reflex while waiting for the material to set, only to find that in some cases the impression wasn’t accurate and you needed to repeat the whole process!

Fortunately, digital impressions at our Midland Park dental office do away with the whole uncomfortable procedure. Instead, we pass a digital scanner over your teeth, and it captures highly accurate, detailed impressions of your teeth. We use digital impressions to produce high-quality restorations like CEREC crowns and traditional crowns, bridges, and onlays and inlays.

Laser Dentistry

Laser dentistry is safer, faster, and less invasive than certain traditional dental techniques. With the assistance of dental lasers, we can perform many procedures efficiently, comfortably, and with less recovery time and improved results.

Our doctors use lasers for gum contouring or crown lengthening for improved esthetics. We also use lasers to effectively eliminate canker sores and reduce the risk of reoccurrence over time. Laser treatment is efficient, minimizes bleeding, and requires less recovery time, so we can perform comfortable gingivectomies to treat advanced gum disease and frenectomies that eliminate "tongue tie." Since our state-of-the-art lasers are less invasive than traditional methods, you will experience pain-free treatment!

Rotary Endodontics

Even though a root canal is an essential procedure that's needed to save a damaged tooth, many people still fear them. These fears are unfounded for many reasons, but at Ohana Dental of Bergen County, we want to do everything possible to ensure your comfort regardless of what procedure we perform.

Rotary endodontic technology is an electrically-powered upgrade from the rigid steel files used in the past to perform root canals. The nickel-titanium tip of the electric hand tool is five times more flexible than manual files. Using rotary endodontics, our dentists perform efficient root canal treatment, and that means you have to spend less time in the dental chair. We can also achieve more desirable outcomes for our patients because rotary endodontic technology cleans the root canals more thoroughly than traditional endodontic tools.

Digital Sensors

Dental x-rays are essential for getting the full picture of your oral health, but patients found that the clips used in the past to hold x-ray film were bulky and uncomfortable, and in some cases, the assistant would have difficulty positioning them properly.

Today we use digital sensors that are flat and smooth and made with rounded corners, so they don't poke into your cheeks. The sensor captures the image digitally, and within a few moments, we can share it with you on your chairside monitor so you can see for yourself what's happening with your oral health.
