What’s the process for getting a dental bridge?
A fixed bridge is a dental prosthetic that we commonly use at Ohana Dental to replace one or two missing teeth in the same area of your mouth. If you’ve ever had a crown placed, you’re already somewhat familiar with the process for getting a bridge at our Midland Park, NJ dental office.
Your First Visit - Preparing the Tooth
A dental bridge is usually a three-piece unit; it consists of an artificial tooth that sits in the space left by a lost tooth and is supported by dental crowns attached to healthy teeth on either side of the gap in your smile.
During your first visit, our dentists will prepare the anchor teeth for crowns by slightly altering their shape and size. Next, we take comfortable digital impressions that we use to create a virtual model of your teeth as well as your temporary bridge. We’ll choose a shade for your new bridge that blends with surrounding teeth and then send all the information to a custom dental lab that fabricates your bridge.
Your Second Visit - Placing Your New Dental Bridge
As soon as we receive your customized dental bridge, we’ll have you return to Ohana Dental. Our dentists will make sure the bridge fits accurately and works with your dental bite. The final step is to cement your new dental bridge into place.
